FTISLAND

 1 year after the debut album, ‘FIVE TREASURE ISLAND’, their long awaited Japanese 2^nd major album, ’20 [twenty]’ is released on May 16^th. We’ll present you our lead feature about this time’s work of the previous single and variety of new songs of them through the long interview of the boys. Also the solo columns of each boys to dig down their characters with the cool, mature photos.

The commemorative title, ’20 [twenty]’.

They talked about this and that on their 2^nd major album with the keyword, ‘Grow-Up’.

■1 year after the release of the 1st album, ‘FIVE TREASURE ISLAND’, the long awaited 2^nd album, ’20 [twenty]’ is released on May 16^th. What feeling did you put in the title?

JH: MH and SH are becoming 20 years old by Japanese counting. So, our band’s average age becomes 20. We aimed more mature album ever.

SH: ‘Becoming-Age-band’ sounds weird. (Laughter) We’ve been running ever since we’re Junior or High school students. Now all of us are turning to 20 and we’re becoming an adult band.

■  Now we’d like to ask you lots of questions featuring on ‘the growing up till becoming 20’. First of all, 3 singles, ‘Let it go!’, ‘Distance’ and the new ‘NEVERLAND’ are contained in the album. What are the positions of these 3 songs there?

JH: ‘Let it go!’ was made to commemorate the Budokan Live. And the other 2 followed that song. So, I guess they are the main figures expressing our growing up at the moment.

■  Especially, ‘NEVERLAND’ is like a pre-release of the album. In the MV, the world of the song and the song itself are so cool! It’s become the opening song for ‘Ozuma’, Sir Reiji Matsumoto’s anime. JH, you joined composing it. Did you start working on it after knowing it would be the song for the anime?

JH: No. I completed it earlier. I did it last summer.

■  Oh, that’s about the time you were holding Budokan Live, then.

HK: Yes. That song is energetic, isn’t it?

JH: I wanted some speedy and massive line. I made it so that the guitar sound would stand out.

■  Especially, the intro. The guitar sounds like the stars scattering. It’s too cool.

JH: I finished with the other parts roughly first. Then, added the guitar sound. It’s mixing the high sound, “Tadadida Tadadida~” to the law sound, “Da~~ da da!!” by tuning in.

■  This complicated guitar technique. I’m really concerned on how to play at lives.

JH: Me, too. (Laughter) I want to play that at the tour sooner.

■  Move on to MH and SH’s grow-up, you 2 composed the coupling songs of ‘NEVERLAND’, ‘WANNA GO’ and ‘YUKI’. I felt your sound have become much expressive!

HK: Yes, haven’t they? These 2 songs are really worth singing. Compared to the previous work by them, ‘Dream sky’, these 2 songs have the colours of their own.

SH: I made the 2^nd song, ‘WANNA GO’, imagining HK hyung singing on the stage. I wanted to have it done without thinking too much but just fun straight rock.

■  That full-speed-feeling is appearing on the melody.

CHOI JONGHOON

■  ‘NEVERLAND’ became the opening song of the anime, ‘Ozuma’.  If you could be one of the characters from those anime, what kind of character from which anime you would like to be (act as a role)?

JH: The Death from the ‘DEATH NOTE’. I would like to be the one who’s completely different from my original character and it should be fun to act an non-human-character.

 ■  Who would you like to costar in it?

JH: No co-actors. I’d do all the roles including Death and the lead role, Kira. (Laughter)

■  You want this and that. (Laughter) Next, you guys talked that you wish to become the self-producing-band in the interview. If you could produce someone from the members, who and how would you like to?

JH: I would produce JJ to be far more gentle character.

■  I guess he is already very gentle.

JH: Much more pure and soft image like Bae Youngjun who’s smiling always.

■  How would you like to do with his outfits? He was being said his daily clothes sucks.

JH: Nowadays he seems to become interested in clothes much more than before.

JJ: ‘Cause I was told many things about it. (Laughter)

JH: But I want to make him neater by building him up.    

■  I see. The timing you release the new album is spring. And spring is the season of meeting the new people. Could you imagine the situation of meeting someone which you think is sweet?

JH: I’m holding a street live in Japan as an indie musician. Then, I just look at one of the girls during the performance. The girl looks at me, too. Then, we meet after the live personally and make good friends.

LEE HONGGI

■  What kind of anime character would you like to act if you can?

HK: ‘○○(Sorry, can’t read)’ from ‘ONE PIECE’ and the Death from ‘BLEACH’.

JH: Oh, I chose the Death, too. Mine is from ‘DEATH NOTE’, though.

HK: JH is the devil in his everyday life. (Laughter) I adore the devil-like-existence ‘cause I’m not.

■  I thougt you were…?

HK: (on the spot) No!

■  Oh, you are the God, aren’t you? That’s the reason why you adore the opposite character. (Laughter) Then, who would you like to costar in there?  

HK: Taka from ONE OK ROCK. He is elder than me actually but I’ll make him being one of my men there. (Laughter)

■  Then, who and how would you like to produce one of the members?

HK: I would do JH to become much more reliable, mature man. His outlook may be good enough now but he has to change the inside of him to be more serious and faithful since he is the leader.

■  I thought he is leaders-like enough now.

HK: Hahaha, you don’t know. (Laughter) He is yes but I would like to remodel him more reliable great leader.

■  I see. That sounds very realistic. By the way, spring is the meeting season. In what kind of situation and what kind of person would you like to meet?

HK: I go shopping to a clothing shop and when I open the the fitting room’s door, a girl is already in there changing her clothes. I say, “Sorry!” closing the door quickly but wait till she finishes to come out so that I can apologize her face to face. And that girl turns out to be so smiley that she forgives me and we make a friendly relationship. If the clothing shop is the same, that means our fashion tastes match, right?  

CHOI MINHWAN

■  What kind of anime character would you like to act?

MH: I love this kind of question ‘cause I love anime! For me, it would be interesting to act ‘Kira’ from ‘DEATH NOTE’. He is an evil but smart and cool as well.

■  JH said the same. The Death from ‘DEATH NOTE’.

MH: Sounds very oppa-like. (Laughter) And Torico from ‘Torico’ would suit him as well wouldn’t it?

■  He surely matches the charismatic atmosphere of Torico. Who would you like to costar in ‘DEATH NOTE’, then?

MH: ‘Elle’ acted by JJ hyung. He is the most suitable person for it.

■  Yes, he is really. (Laughter) By the way, who among the members would you like to produce if you can? 

MH: SH. I’m always beside of him so I know all about him. I would produce him to be a quiet, smart, mysterious man. Although super talented when it comes to playing music.

SH: I thought I am already mysterious in my daily life. I scarcely speak. Kk..

■  Let your fans judge on what you said, SH. (Laughter) Spring is the meeting season. Who and how would you like to meet?

MH: I go to an amusement park with my friends. I ride on a rollercoaster and the seat is for 3. Then, one girl ride in next to me and she is so cute. I fall in love at the first sight and I confess, “Do you love me?” while the rollercoaster’s going up. She replies “Yes!!” while the coaster diving down. (Laughter) Love like a rollercoaster.

LEE JAEJIN

■  Who would you like to be if you can act one of those anime characters?

JJ: “Uzumaki Naruto” from ‘NARUTO’ for me. He is very pure and he fights for his precious friends and people he loves. He looks active and positive. I want to try living like him.

■  And who to costar in that work?

JJ: It’d never be boring if SH’s there. There are no such things like PC or TV games in the world of anime. So it should be fun if I have a friend like him.

■  Who and how would you like to produce, then?

JJ: JH hyung for me. He’s sexy but I want to produce him to be more massive and masculine. I could even invest for him. (Laughter) His looks would be great enough but he should throw some muscles on the upper half of his body and put some more on the bottom half.

■  Such a specific producing. Now, spring is the meeting season. What kind of person and in what kind of situation would you like to meet?

JJ: I come to study in Japan at the beginning of the new term. When I’m riding a bicycle putting on the school uniform through the Sakura (Cherry blossoms) street, I spot a girl of the nice looking from the back. When I’ve cached up her, she turns out to be a very pretty girl. So, I say, “Can we make friends?” And my school life will be love-love by making friends with her smoothly. (Laughter)

■  Sounds like a drama. You have a great imagination. Have you experienced the similar one when you were a student?

JJ: hmmm, no this kind of situation. Can’t we make a drama by that scenario? It would be suitable for me to act such a pure boy.

SONG SEUNGHYUN

■  What kind of anime character would you like to act if you can?

SH: ‘Usop’ from ‘ONE PIECE.’ Clown-like, mischievous and big talker. That’s very much like my image.

■  Who to costar with?

SH: I would like MH. His role is the Merman who’s eating all the time. (Laughter)

■  Who and how would you like to produce among the members?

SH: MH who has the image of being forever smallest to the dark adult-like one. He said he wanted to try acting the evil before. So, I’d make him smoke to show his cool and wild side.

MH: I never like smoking.

SH: It’s fiction, all right? (Laughter) And for his appearance, eye lines and very moody long hair like Mr. Jo Odagiri. No pants but only the long shirts. Ah~, so funny just imagining!

■  That sounds like more a weird person than a naughty character. (Laughter) Now, spring is the meeting season. In what kind of situation and what kind of person would you like to meet?

SH: I’m looking for an interesting book in a library, find one and take it in my hand. Then, there is a beautiful woman who works there beyond the shelf in front  and we look at each other. I’m so embarrassed that I move my position to choose another book but again we meet there face to face over the bookshelf between us.  I change the position again and meet her there again… We start hide and seek repeating hiding and showing our faces each other. I just try to get closer to her pushing my face between the books but the self just falls over. Lastly, I put my face out of the mountain of the books, confessing, “Do you love me?” like MH! (Laughter)    

■  The other members ones are all dramatic but yours is a comedy…

SH: Fun, isn’t it? (Laughter)

FTISLAND 20[twenty]

This time’s 2^nd album is released with much more step up after concreting the weekly chart No.1 by the major 1^st album, which was the very first thing among the abroad male artists in history. The big proof of their grown-ups through experiencing variety of things as a band is packed in it as it is talked in the group interview. We’re honestly looking forward to their farther more heart-pounding exciting activities with the much closer bond among the members and their hot power of going on looking only for the future.
